Alex Traterrestre is a French artist of Italian and Réunionese descent, born in 1992. After studying product design and gaining a variety of professional experiences, art emerged in his life as a calling. Throughout his years of personal exploration, none of the professions he tried were truly fulfilling; his perpetual quest for freedom naturally led him to pivot towards what he could do best independently—drawing.

For the past two years, he has dedicated himself fully to his art, conveying his ideas through innovative concepts. His 3D paintings offer the ability to be illuminated, thus serving a purpose both day and night. Nighttime holds a special place in his inspiration, and it is for this reason he has made his canvases visible even when daylight does not permit.

The Cyberpunk universe is his primary muse. He enjoys rendering his works timeless by weaving elements from the past into futuristic settings. He deliberately distorts perspectives to amplify the vastness of his scenes, thereby underscoring human insignificance. He is especially fond of the notion of reimagining the rules of our world. The dark ambiance of Gotham or the Watchmen greatly inspires him, with Dr. Manhattan holding a particular fascination. Urban music and sports also play a significant role in his inspirations.

When a light is turned on to illuminate a room, the effect is similar to that of natural daylight. However, if the canvas emits its own light, it presents a distinct image even in darkness. This variety is what captivates the artist. He aims to maximize the realms of possibility within a single static—or dynamic—image. Some of his creations also have the capability to produce smoke, thereby making a typically static image "come alive" as the smoke drifts away. This smoke also carries a fragrance, allowing one to appreciate the artwork not just visually but olfactorily as well..

Smoke is generated using incense or Armenian paper, allowing for a wide range of scents to suit individual preferences. All of this is enclosed in a stainless steel box. This thick metal ensures complete safety for the artwork and its surroundings. The smoke is artfully staged to mimic exhaust from cars, cigarette smoke, and other effects... The artist plans to continue exploring these effects...

The artist crafts his paintings in 3D, thereby enhancing the depth of perspectives. He meticulously cuts and assembles the various layers of his works and integrates lighting systems into them. He encases a miniature universe within his frames.

The 3D paintings come with a remote control to adjust the light's frequency and intensity from a distance. For convenience, a button is also available on the painting itself in case of remote control malfunction. At night, the lights transform the artwork, giving it an entirely new dimension. They innovatively enliven the space that houses them, breathing life into landscapes and characters.
